Comparison

AuditCore vs SafetyCulture (iAuditor) for BRC Internal Audits

By Anthony Oakes, Founder · Updated June 2026 · 7 min read

SafetyCulture (formerly iAuditor) is one of the most widely used inspection apps in the world, spanning construction, retail, hospitality and food. The question for a UK food manufacturer isn't whether it's a good app — it is — but whether a general-purpose inspection platform is the right tool for running a BRC Issue 9 internal audit programme. This is an honest, side-by-side comparison.

The honest starting point

SafetyCulture is excellent at what it's designed for: fast, flexible, mobile-first inspections backed by a vast template library, strong native apps and a large ecosystem of integrations. If you inspect many different things across multiple industries, it's hard to beat.

AuditCore is deliberately narrower. It is built for one job: running the internal audit programme, GMP inspections and non-conformance management that UK food manufacturers need for BRC and other GFSI standards. That focus is the whole comparison — breadth and flexibility versus depth in one domain.

Where SafetyCulture works well

SafetyCulture is the stronger choice when you need one platform across many inspection types and industries — health & safety, facilities, equipment, retail standards and food, all in one place. Its template library, native mobile apps, sensor/IoT options and integrations are mature, and large field teams get a polished experience. If food-safety internal auditing is only one of many things you inspect, that breadth is genuinely valuable.

Where it falls short for BRC internal audit

It isn't food-safety specific. There's no pre-loaded, clause-mapped BRC Issue 9 (or FSSC/IFS/ISO/SQF) question set — you build and maintain your own. That's flexible, but it means the standard's structure lives in your head and your templates rather than in the tool.

No built-in audit programme. BRC expects a planned annual programme covering the whole standard. AuditCore schedules that against the section schedule and flags what's overdue; in a general inspection app you manage the calendar yourself.

CAPA is generic. SafetyCulture's actions are a flexible task feature. BRC internal auditing benefits from a structured two-phase CAPA — immediate correction, then root-cause analysis and preventive action — with close-out independently verified by a second person. AuditCore enforces that flow; in a general tool it's a convention you have to police.

Cost scales with users. Per-seat pricing is fine for small teams but can climb as you add occasional users. AuditCore's per-site pricing keeps a single manufacturing site predictable regardless of how many people log in.

The verdict

If you need a flexible inspection platform across many industries and use cases, SafetyCulture is an excellent generalist. If your priority is a defensible BRC Issue 9 internal audit programme — pre-loaded clause-mapped questions, programme scheduling, a proper two-phase CAPA with independent verification, GMP inspections and NC analytics — AuditCore gives you that out of the box, at a predictable per-site price.

Frequently asked questions

Is SafetyCulture (iAuditor) good for BRC internal audits?
It's a strong general-purpose inspection app and you can build BRC checklists in it. The gap for food manufacturers is that it isn't food-safety specific: no pre-loaded clause-mapped BRC Issue 9 question set, no built-in annual programme, and actions are generic rather than a two-phase CAPA with enforced independent verification. You can assemble much of this yourself; AuditCore ships with it.
What is the difference between AuditCore and SafetyCulture?
AuditCore is purpose-built for UK food manufacturers running BRC and GFSI internal audits — pre-loaded clause-mapped question sets, an audit programme builder, a two-phase NC/CAPA workflow with independent verification, GMP inspections and NC pattern analytics. SafetyCulture is a flexible multi-industry inspection platform with a huge template library and native apps, but food-safety depth is something you configure.
How does AuditCore pricing compare to SafetyCulture?
AuditCore is priced per site from £59/site/month with every feature included. SafetyCulture is priced largely per seat across tiers, so cost scales with users and plan. For a single food site with a focused audit team, AuditCore's per-site model is usually more predictable — compare against your expected user count.
Does AuditCore work offline on a tablet like SafetyCulture?
Yes. AuditCore GMP inspections capture responses, photos and voice notes offline in the browser (it's a Progressive Web App) and sync on reconnect. SafetyCulture uses native iOS/Android apps. Both let an inspector work without a connection; AuditCore does it through the web app rather than a separate download.
